Case Description:

A 42 year old obtunded, disheveled man is brought into your emergency department. Past medical history, medications, allergies, and social history are unknown and unobtainable. He is unable to give you a clear history. EMS states they were called by a concerned bystander. He was found on the side walk. Case takes the learner through aggressive re-warming in a critically ill patient, using invasive actions.

Objectives: 1. Demonstrate recognition of critical hypothermia 2. Perform a resuscitation including treatment of severe hypothermia 3. Organize hospital resources to resuscitate patient effectively Target Audience: EM Residents (PGY I-III) at a large urban county hospital that will work together as part of a resuscitation team. Challenges would include extremes of patient care aggressiveness (high to low) based on year training. Materials: 1. Rapid infuser 2. Bear hugger 3. Chest tube tray 4. DPL equipment 5. Foley equipment (OPTIONAL: temperature sensing foley) 6. ECG w/ bradycardia / Osborn waves 7. ECG w/ bradycardia / no Osborn waves 8. Intubation box
