The ST segment is the interval between the end of the QRS complex and
the beginning of the T wave. In approximately 75% of people this segment
is iso-electric (flat). Elevation or depression of greater than 0.1mV
is considered abnormal. The "J-point" is the end of the QRS complex and
serves at the take-off point of the ST segment.
ST segment deviation is measured 0.04 seconds after the J-point from the
baseline.
In acute myocardial infarction the ST segment is typically elevated and
there are reciprocal ST depressions. This is known as an acute injury pattern.
Presence of the acute injury pattern does not exclude other disease, for
example, pericarditis. |
